Parking privacy notice

The Parking Management function is responsible for civil parking and moving traffic enforcement in the Gateshead Council area, it is also responsible for the setting of charges for on and off-street designated parking spaces and parking permits and the management and administration of these assets.

Why we need your information and how we use it

There are two key areas for how we need your information, the first being pursuant to the recovery of outstanding penalty charges, we need this information to write to you to ensure that you are aware of any outstanding actions and the rights you have in relation to them. These penalty charges are issued under the Traffic Management Act 2004.

The second relates to the administration and sale of parking permits, we need this information to verify that you live in one of our controlled parking zones, this information is provided consensually so this is not mandated by legislation.

What type of information is collected from you

The information we collect and process is your:

  • name
  • address
  • proof of vehicle ownership

Who your information may be shared with (internally and externally)

We share information with internal departments for issuing parking permits, if you apply for blue badge, or disable parking bay.

We also obtain information from DVLA.

How long we keep your information

We are required under financial regulations to keep your information for a minimum of six years after which time it will be destroyed.

How you can access, update or correct your information

The Data Protection law gives you the right to apply for a copy of information about yourself. This is called a 'Subject Access Request'. To find out more about how to make a Subject Access Request visit the data protection page.

The accuracy of your information is important to us to be able to provide relevant services more quickly. We are working to make our record keeping more efficient.
