St Mary's Heritage Centre has developed a tradition for hosting unique events and activities. These include:

  • art installations
  • local history talks
  • concerts and performances
  • an annual winter festival installation

The building is also available to hire for private events, such as:

  • wedding receptions
  • conferences
  • meetings
  • workshops
  • parties
  • business launches
  • formal dinners

Located on Gateshead's Quayside, the centre is well served by public transport. There is also a small car park for visitors and ample pay parking nearby.

Spaces available for hire

The building is divided into two spaces, separated by a glass wall and sliding door.

The main hall
Capacity110 people for a banquet-style event and 150 people for a less formal setting.
AvailabilityAll day Sunday and Monday. Evenings only Tuesday to Saturday. 

On special request, we can make the main hall available from 1pm on Saturdays.

The chancel 
CapacityUp to 50 people for an intimate reception, meeting, workshop or concert.  
AvailabilityTuesday to Saturday, 10am unti 4pm.

Equipment and support

When you hire the building, you can access a range of furniture and equipment. This includes:

  • tables
  • chairs
  • PA
  • microphones
  • screens
  • projectors
  • theatre lighting

We can also provide tea, coffee and biscuits.

If you want to know more about catering options for large functions, please ask a member of our staff.

Experienced and helpful staff

When hiring the centre for your event, staff will be on hand throughout the planning process.

We will make sure you will have the appropriate number of staff for the size of your event. As well as having staff on hand for the security of the building and your guests.
