NewcasteGateshead Skyride. This annual event in its second year, was held on Saturday 2 August and saw over 2,300 cyclists participate in a 6.8km bike ride around both the Gateshead and Newcastle quaysides. The route took in the quayside before heading south over the Swing Bridge, Pipewellgate and then back past Sage Gateshead and Baltic Square returning over Gateshead Millennium Bridge to East Quayside and Spillers Quay.

September 2014

Sixth year of Great North CityGames held the day before the Great North Run. The exciting format lets spectators get up close to the action, and best of all - it's completely free to spectate.

October 2014

The annual Celebrating Achievement Awards for Gateshead's Looked After Children and Young People took place on 30 October. There were 340 young people nominated to receive awards by social workers, foster carers, teachers and other professionals.

The seventh Juice Festival took place, showcasing inspiring events and artwork created by, for, and with children and young people. Working with cultural venues, arts organisations, schools, projects, artists and volunteers, the festival takes place in venues and open air locations across NewcastleGateshead during the October half term, featuring events for a wide age range.

November 2014

Council promoted Alcohol Awareness Week.

Council began consulting on proposals to reduce the amount it spends on its leisure facilities.

December 2014Sage Gateshead celebrated its 10th anniversary with a wide ranging programme of events and activities.
January 2015Gateshead Year of Walking 2015. The key objective was to encourage people in Gateshead to view walking as a healthy activity.
February 2015

The new state of the art Emergency Care Centre opened at QE Gateshead.

Gateshead Millennium Bridge turned blue to highlight Fairtrade Fortnight.

Work gets underway to construct new homes for Bensham and Saltwell as part of a major regeneration project for the area.

March 2015A Freedom of the Borough ceremony took place for Antony Sargent, Lord Puttnam and Royal Northern Sinfonia.
