Love Parks Week

Salltwell Park bandstand

Our parks and green spaces have been a vital lifeline to many of us during the lockdowns.  23 July to 1 August, is Love Parks Week, a chance to visit and appreciate the many wonderful parks we have here in Gateshead.

As part of Love Parks Week, a series of heritage walks and activities have been organised in Saltwell Park to help you find out more about this much loved park.

24 July

11am

One-hour heritage stroll

This is a 1-hour, light-hearted stroll to look at the heritage of the Park organised by the Friends of Saltwell Park.

Please meet by the waymarked signpost at the front entrance to Saltwell Towers at 11am.

If you are coming in a wheelchair, please let us know so we can make the necessary provision.

Family Sport Challenge

Welcome back Parkrun to Saltwell Park by dropping into our family sport challenge.

On Saturday from 9am, once Parkrun has started, members of Saltwell Harriers will be on the big field by the start of the event with fitness challenges for all the family to try.

No need to book, just turn up and give it a go. 

They will be there until 11am.

One-hour heritage stroll

This is a 1-hour, light-hearted stroll to look at the heritage of the Park organised by the Friends of Saltwell Park.

This time exploring the fascinating history and some of the many repurposed Victorian Grade 11 buildings.  We will also include more recent additions including the Grove area of this wonderful Park.  Please meet by the waymarked signpost at the front entrance of Saltwell Towers at 11 am.

Wild Family Fun Day

Join North East Wilds for an adventure in Saltwell Park - making fires, Stories, Games Nature Crafts & Treats Cooked on the Fire.

Booking essential: https://northeastwilds.bookwhen.com/

For parents and under 6s, spaces are limited so please book early. Please wear long trousers and sensible shoes, warm/waterproof layers or sun protection as needed. 

We recommend bringing drinking water with you as well as this isn't available on site.  The available toilet facilities are the public toilets in the park.

Hive Mind

Have you ever wanted to know what goes on inside a Beehive? Then pop along to the apiary (next to the top bowling green) on Saturday 31st July between 10am and 2pm and have all your questions answered by Tyneside Beekeepers Association and find out more about how the bees help us in Saltwell Park.

There will also be honey and beeswax candles on sale.
