Bike Maintenance 2

Cyclists in Gateshead are being offered a free bike safety check this spring as part of a 'Big Bike Revival'.

Bike maintenance sessions, also known as 'Dr Bike', will be taking place across the borough to help cyclists feel confident that their bikes are fit for the road.

A professional bike mechanic will be bringing their mobile workshop to perform a series of safety checks including checking and realigning breaks, adjusting gears, and fixing punctures. Dr Bike will also top up your tyres with air giving you a more comfortable ride and help reduce the dreaded puncture. Bike owners will also be given advice and recommendations if further work is needed.

Whether your dusting off an old bike from the shed or are a regular cyclist it's important that your bike is safe and roadworthy both for yourself and for other road users. It doesn't take long for a bike safety check to take place and instead of having to take your bike to a bike shop, Dr Bike will be bringing the workshop to a location near you and best of all, it's free.

Dr Bike sessions will be taking place at locations across Gateshead during May with the first session taking place on on Thursday 6 May in Birtley.

You can drop by with your bike but it would be helpful if you could book a place in advance so numbers can be managed by emailing brightentheday@gateshead.gov.uk.  Sessions are funded by Cycling UK as part of their Big Bike Revival programme.
