The Mayor of Gateshead has joined with the Leader of Gateshead Council and Council employees to thank everyone across Gateshead for everything they have done throughout 2020 to help others.

Councillor Martin Gannon, Leader of the Council, said "The last 12 months have undoubtedly been an incredibly difficult time for everyone as we have faced the world's biggest health crisis in living memory. We have been challenged in ways we could never have imagined.

However despite everything we have had to face the response from the people of Gateshead has been amazing. I'm very proud of the way in which residents, businesses, community groups, key workers and Council staff have pulled together to help others, especially those most in need. We know that there are more challenges ahead so I'd like to ask everyone to have a safe Christmas where we continue to protect ourselves, others and Gateshead"
