Testing for people without symptoms
Free lateral flow test kits for the general public are no longer available.
Regular testing will continue to be provided for certain groups, including patient-facing NHS staff and adult social care workers. Read more on who can access free Covid-19 tests from April 2022 and how to get them.
Some employers may also make free testing available to their staff and visitors.
Most visitors to care homes and hospitals will no longer require a test, but if you are offered a test before your visit, please take it to help protect those who are most vulnerable.
Lateral flow test kits can also be bought from pharmacies, supermarkets and online.
Although lateral flow tests are useful, they are not 100% effective and will not identify all cases of COVID-19. If you feel unwell, you are strongly advised to stay at home as much as you can and minimise contact with others - even if your lateral flow test result was negative. This will help reduce the spread of COVID-19 and other viruses.
