Gateshead Council COVID-19 Risk Assessments

Gateshead Council's Covid-19 Risk Assessments have been developed to assess Covid-19 related risks within the workplace, and to enable services to continue to be delivered to our residents in a safe way.

The risk assessments are based on government Covid-19 secure guidance and look at risks in relation to both the workplace and workforce. The assessments include the key principles that should be applied in the workplace and to support the workforce and guidance on specific types/areas of work including offices (CSG-RA-14 Corporate Office Risk Assessment), outdoor working (CSG-RA-16 Generic Construction Risk Assessment), vehicles and working in people's homes (CSG-RA-17 Corporate Working in Other People's Homes Risk Assessment).

The risk assessments were completed as part of the planning for reopening services and/or bringing any required key employees into the workplace where they either cannot work from home or where there is a business need for staff to physically attend the workplace.

These risk assessments are supplemented by premise and activity specific risk assessments.

COVID-19 vulnerable employee risk assessment

Any employee of Gateshead Council who may be classified as clinically vulnerable or extremely clinically vulnerable (shielding) should, along with all other council employees, work from home if at all possible.

In certain circumstances it may be possible for employees who are clinically vulnerable or shielding, or employees who are living with someone that is clinically vulnerable or shielding, to return to work or to the workplace with additional control measures in place.

The COVID-19 Vulnerable Employee Risk Assessment is used to assess the potential risks to a vulnerable person before any return to work is allowed. It must be offered to all staff returning to work/the workplace to identify and address their concerns about returning and to agree what additional control measures will be in place.

The current risk assessment (CSG-RA-15 Vulnerable Employee Risk Assessment):

  • includes a section for staff to discuss their personal circumstances and any concerns they have about returning to work or the workplace
  • takes into consideration individual factors including age, gender and ethnicity
  • considers workplace risks specific to the individual
  • provides a list of suggested control measures and prompts to aid discussion about measures needed to support the individual's personal circumstances.
