New service launched to help employers and individuals facing employment challenges

Jobs Fuse

Gateshead Jobs Fuse is a new service which has been launched to support regional employers and help those whose jobs have been affected as a result of the coronavirus.

The joint service, created by Gateshead Council, the National Careers Service and the Department for Work and Pensions, Gateshead Jobs Fuse will connect employers who have urgent vacancies with people in Gateshead who are available to start work.

As part of the Gateshead Jobs Fuse package, the National Careers Service will provide support to those in the region who have lost their jobs or whose jobs have been affected by coronavirus.  People can contact the National Careers Service helpline for free, impartial, and expert careers advice as well as practical guidance such as CV writing and access to training.

Councillor Malcolm Brain, Lead member for the economy at Gateshead Council, said: "Gateshead Jobs Fuse will provide a vital service for those affected by employment issues due to coronavirus.

"The National Careers Service will also provide a service to match people who have been made redundant to job vacancies where possible and provide additional support if people need help with employability or skills."

Leanne Misaljevich, area manager for the National Careers Service in the North East said: "We face uncertain times and in response to this we are delighted to be working with DWP and Gateshead Council to form the Gateshead Jobs Fuse.

"The National Careers Service is uniquely positioned to be able to provide free, impartial careers and employment advice and guidance to residents and employers in the Gateshead area, all delivered by our team of professional careers advisers."

Carol Hailes, Local Partnership Manager, Department for Work and Pensions added: "We are very pleased to see how Gateshead partners have worked together to support the work of our Jobcentre Plus colleagues who are incredibly busy, and working hard to ensure that everyone gets the support they need at this challenging time."
