Residents asked to remember Armed Forces Week at home

Armed Forces week

Gateshead residents are being encouraged to mark Armed Forces Week from the safety of their own home due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Armed Forces Week, which begins on Monday 22 June, recognises the role of those who currently serve or have served their country as part of the armed forces.

The Armed Forces flag will be flown at Gateshead Civic Centre and Gateshead Millennium Bridge will be lit red, white and blue throughout the week. People are being encouraged to remember the efforts of our Armed Forces in their own personal way from the safety of their own home.

Councillor Stuart Green, Armed Forces Champion, said "Armed Forces Week is a real highlight for Gateshead as we're incredibly proud of our close links with the Armed Forces and the support we give to serving and ex-service personnel.

"This year, due to the ongoing crisis, it's important we do everything we can to keep our residents safe so sadly we're unable to hold public events. However we still want to mark Armed Forces Week as it's incredibly important that we take time to remember what all of our Armed Forces do to help keep our country safe."
