Libraries reach milestone for frontline staff

2000 visors

Gateshead Council's library service have delivered their 2,000th visor to frontline workers across the borough.

Libraries across Gateshead closed last month to help prevent the spread of coronavirus however, using some of the latest technology, library staff have been helping frontline staff by printing  and cutting Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The visors continue to be delivered to care workers, care homes and others providing care to Gateshead residents.

Councillor Angela Douglas, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport, said "This is an amazing achievement for our library service and we are incredibly proud of the team. We've had fantastic support from our community volunteers, the Metrology Laboratory and PROTO, our emerging technology centre."

"Our staff are working very hard to ensure the people in Gateshead who need these visors can access them. We'll continue to make these visors for as long as we need to so we can help to protect our frontline workers."

If you need a supply of visors for your care home, please send your request to email libraries@gateshead.gov.uk
