Garden waste discount deadline approaches

Don't forget - you only have until the end of this month to take advantage of our special reduced-price offer for this year's garden waste collections.

The usual price for an annual subscription is £33 which is the same as last year's, but if you sign up before 1 February then we will knock another £2 off that - that's just £31 for 15 fortnightly kerbside collections.

We can collect a wide range of garden waste from your kerbside including grass cuttings, leaves, hedge trimmings and tree prunings. The collected garden waste is then taken to a local recycling plant where it is treated and turned into compost which is then used by local farms as a soil improver.

Last year, we collected more than 6,000 tonnes of garden waste from Gateshead residents.

Cabinet Member for Communities and Volunteering, Councillor Linda Green, said: "Garden waste collections have proved extremely popular, no doubt due the sheer convenience of having your grass cuttings and hedge trimmings taken away from the kerbside.

"There is also a lot of support for recycling in Gateshead and it's great to see so many people choosing to dispose of their waste in this way.

Sign up for garden waste collections"We fully understand the financial pressures which many local residents are under, so we have frozen the price for the fourth year in a row to ensure that as many local people as possible can continue to take advantage of this service."

More than two-thirds of householders who signed up for garden waste collections last year did so online on our website.

The £2 discount offer closes on January 31. For more information or to sign up, please visit our garden waste page.
