The online events allow you to meet some of our friendly team and hear their presentations about fostering. You will also get to hear from one of our foster carers about their own fostering journey. It's a great way to find out more about fostering before taking the next step. These are relaxed, informal, online sessions using Microsoft Teams. Please note, you don't need to make any commitment to progressing further, but we will email you after the event with our digital information pack so that you can continue to think about whether fostering is the right fit for you.

In the presentation we will go through:

  • what qualities and experience we look for in foster carers
  • what do foster carers do?
  • why you should foster with Gateshead
  • the different types of fostering we have
  • the pay, financial support and add-on benefits you will receive as a Gateshead Council foster carer
  • the support and training we provide and the career progression on offer
  • the foster carer assessment journey
  • hear from one of our foster carers about their fostering story
  • general fostering Q&A with staff and a foster carer
  • the first steps of your fostering journey if you want to proceed

Please visit our Eventbrite page to book onto these events. If you have trouble signing up to these events, please email fostering@gateshead.gov.uk or phone 0191 433 8333 and we will help you book your place.

If these dates are not suitable for you, please ring us on 0191 433 8333 and you can speak to a social worker, who will talk you through the process and answer your questions, or you can come along to one of our pop-up events, also listed in the Eventbrite link above.
