Gateshead celebrates National Libraries Week

Gateshead libraries are celebrating everything they have to offer to local residents as part of National Libraries Week.
From Mini Meerkats to photography sessions, knitting to Green Screen Teens there is something for everyone to enjoy as part of a wide-ranging events programme.
National Libraries Week is this year celebrating libraries in a digital world with a focus on how communities can engage through technology and improve their digital skills. Within Gateshead libraries there are many different ways for local residents to improve or learn new skills with life skills online, tech taster sessions and coding clubs for young people.
Gateshead born, award-winning author and Freeman of the Borough David Almond said "The free public library is one of civilisations greatest achievements. It's a place of exploration, learning, enjoyment, discovery and freedom.
"I'm a child of libraries. I grew up in Felling. Our little local library was just down the street from where I lived, just across the street from where I played football with my friends. It helped me to understand myself and the world, helped me to be happy and to dream and to grow. It nourished my ambitions to be a writer, to create books that would stand on library shelves one day."
