Weather causes emergency closure of Thornley Lane

Thornley Lane between Winlaton and the A694 Lockhaugh Road has been closed to through traffic until further notice.
The road, from the junction of Mill Lane to Hollinhill, is subject to an emergency road closure due to the dangerous condition of the road surface.
Access to properties adjoining the road will be maintained, but drivers will need to drive with care.
Surface dressing of the road was underway this morning but was interrupted by sudden torrential rain at a critical point in the work. This sudden rainfall prevented the bitumen from setting and has caused the new road surface to be severely damaged. With the new road surface now not adhering correctly, the road is no longer safe to drive on.
Work to replace the damaged road surface and re-open the road will get underway as quickly as possible though it is likely to take several days before the work can be completed.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
