Approximately 300,000 people in the North East are carers, looking after a parent, partner, child or friend.

Caring can be a hugely rewarding experience but sometimes carers find it challenging to take care of their own well-being whilst caring and the impact of caring on health and well-being should not be underestimated.

We talked to five carers from Gateshead to find out the challenges they face and the support that they get in their caring role.
