Carers share during Carers Week

Carer Lynn

This week, 10 - 16 June, is Carers Week. Carers Week is a national campaign to raise awareness of the importance of caring, highlight the challenges faced by carers as well as to recognise the contribution they make to communities and families.

Approximately 300,000 people in the North East are carers, looking after a parent, partner, child or friend. Caring can be a hugely rewarding experience but sometimes carers find it challenging to take care of their own well-being whilst caring and the impact of caring on health and well-being should not be underestimated. This year we are highlighting the opportunities that technology can offer to support carers, particularly easily accessible mainstream things such as Skype, Alexa, and the various apps which are readily available.

Throughout the week we are celebrating the fantastic work that carers do every day. We talked to five carers from Gateshead to find out the challenges they face and the support that they get in their caring role.
