Hey Clay!

Hey Clay

Bensham Grove Pottery in partnership with Gateshead learningSkills will be one of the 70 UK venues hosting the Crafts Council's National Hey Clay! Event on Sunday 19 May 12.30-4pm.

The Crafts Council's Hey Clay! event gives people the opportunity to get creative with clay at a free pottery workshop in Gateshead.

Bensham Pottery, supported by Gateshead learningSkills, has witnessed a surge of interest in the popularity of ceramics classes at the centre due to the TV show The Great Pottery Throw Down. In 2018 Hey Clay! saw venues across the UK attracting over 4,000 visitors. Hey Clay! venues reported that their events were fully booked, and they had waiting lists for ceramic courses throughout the year.

That's why the Crafts Council wants to offer opportunities for the nation to get creative. And it's not just for young people - Hey Clay! gives everyone the opportunity to roll up their sleeves and unleash their inner potter. So far we have 70 Hey Clay! events confirmed in museums, galleries, colleges and potteries across the UK - with more being added every day.

Hey Clay! visitors to The Pottery at Bensham Grove Community Centre, Sydney Grove, Gateshead will be able to participate in an outdoor smoke firing, throwing on a wheel, modelling with clay, decorating with found objects and much more.

This is a 'drop-in' style workshop, no pre-booking required.
