We have a large collection of books that can help with your health and wellbeing.

Reading has been proven to help reduce stress and we have some great mood-busting books, reading well collections, and creative and social reading activities for all ages. 

We can help you find online advice and information and signpost to local services. We also have resources suitable for groups working with people with additional needs.

This collection helps you to understand your feelings and cope with tough times like when someone dies, bullying, feelings, your health and worries.

Reading well: books on prescription 

We have a range of books to help you to understand and manage your health and wellbeing using self-help reading. The books are all endorsed by health experts, as well as people living with the conditions, their relatives and carers.

Mental health

We have a collection of books which provide helpful information and support for managing common mental health conditions, or dealing with difficult feelings and experiences. Some books also include personal stories from people who are living with or caring for someone with mental health needs.

Shelf help for young people

This collection provides 13 to 18 year olds with advice and information about issues like anxiety, stress and OCD, body image and difficult experiences like bullying and exams.

Long term conditions  

This collection provides information and support for people living with a long term health condition and their carers. The books cover general advice and information, as well as common symptoms and specific conditions such as sleep problems, pain,  arthritis, bowel conditions, diabetes, heart disease and stroke.

This collection includes books which cover personal stories and provides recommendations on information and support available for people living with dementia and their relatives and carers.

Pictures to Share is a collection of beautiful picture books designed to connect with people who have mid to late stage dementia. They are free to borrow as a collection. Bag Books

We offer bag books to loan by local groups and organisations. These offer multi-sensory story books to stimulate people with severe, profound or multiple learning disabilities. The boxes come with instructions, story outlines and multi sensory objects for use by workers to tell stories through voice and emotion rather than words and pictures. Bag books are available to borrow for local groups and organisations who work with adults, children or young people.
