Parliamentary boundary review

At the next general election, expected in May 2015, the number of MPs in Parliament will be reduced from 650 to 600. To accommodate this change the boundaries of most parliamentary constituencies will need to be changed.

The Boundary Commission for England are responsible this. As part of this process initial recommendations were made in September 2011. We submitted formal representations on the initial proposals to make sure any changes offer the best solution for Gateshead residents.

In April 2012 the Boundary Commission for England completed a consultation on the representations received in response to their initial proposals. All representations received to date are now being considered by the Commission with a view to publishing a set of revised proposals later in the year.
