Launch of new summer festival for Gateshead Quays

An exciting new festival heads to Gateshead Quays this summer as Q Festival arrives on Baltic Square from Friday 14 July to Sunday 6 August 2017.

A joint collaboration between Gateshead Council and Jesterval Comedy Festival the Q Festival will present a full programme of activities over 24 days, for up to 15,000 people of all ages to enjoy this summer.

A beautiful 1920’s feel Spielgeltent on Baltic Square will play host to a vibrant and eclectic line up of day time activities and evening events for adults, children, businesses and families. Plus there’s an indoor and outdoor bar and beer garden and food pop-ups serving street food and refreshments to add to the entertainment in the square.

In additional to Jesterval’s 45 comedy events, Q Festival will include; children’s summer holiday workshops from the likes of Artventurers, a baby rave from Chalk and a performance from The StoryTeller, to evening events including an immersive cinema with Screenage Kicks, a Jumpin’ Hot Club gig, a gin festival weekender with Steampunk gin, adult crafting events and an 80’s disco.

Gateshead Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport and Leisure, Councillor John McElroy said: “We’re really excited to be launching our inaugural Q Festival in July on Baltic Square. It’s a fantastically diverse programme supporting our work with some very talented cultural businesses and creatives in a show stopping Spiegeltent.  As ever, Jesterval have a great line up of world class comedians so visitors to Gateshead Quays of all ages can expect to be totally entertained this summer.”

Jesterval Director, Della Haq said: “Jesterval was established in 2011 and over the past six years has attracted performances from some of the UK’s most high-profile comics including Jason Manford, Patrick Monahan, Luisa Omielan and Ed Byrne to name but a few.  This year will be Jesterval’s fifth year on Baltic Square and the first as part of the Q Festival.  We look forward to it continuing to be a huge success with audiences and becoming a highlight of the North East’s event calendar.”

Q Festival takes place on Baltic Square, Gateshead Quays from Friday 14 July until Sunday 6 August 2017.
