Local volunteers take centre stage again as part of Gateshead’s fifth Volunteers’ Month with more than 40 events taking place across the borough to celebrate volunteering.

From health and wellbeing events to a barbecue celebration, from helping to look after your local area to the Teams Festival, there is something for everyone to enjoy and  would-be volunteers can find out what volunteering is all about and the real difference their contribution can make to the communities where they live.

Co-ordinated by Gateshead Council, it provides a platform and focus for local groups and organisations to celebrate their volunteers and promote their volunteering opportunities through drop in/information sessions and more practical taster sessions.

Last year during Volunteers’ Month over 60 new volunteers were recruited, over 60 events were organised and 101,170 hours were recorded on the volunteer totaliser. Funding of nearly £12,000 was given to local organisations so they could hold an event, and a celebratory event in Trinity Square attracted over 16,000 people and involved around 20 local organisations.

For more information on all the events taking place go to our Gateshead Volunteers’ Month page or visit the Our Gateshead page.
