O Stars and Dreams and Gentle Night

Tickets to NewcastleGateshead Initiative and Gateshead Council's popular after-dark arts adventure, Enchanted Parks, will go on sale at 9am on Tuesday 4 October.

This annual event, which sees specially commissioned artists transform Gateshead’s Saltwell Park into a magical and mythical wonderland, has been extended to include an additional night to meet overwhelming public demand.

Enchanted Parks will open on Tuesday 6 December and run until Sunday 11 December 2016.

Carol Bell, culture and major events director at NewcastleGateshead Initiative said: “The demand for tickets to Enchanted Parks is always high so I’m delighted we’ve been able to add an extra night.

“Almost 30,000 people will have the opportunity to visit Enchanted Parks this year to experience the newly created art installations, performances, lighting and sculpture in and around Saltwell Park. It really is a special event and something we should be very proud takes place in NewcastleGateshead.”

The theme for this year’s Enchanted Parks is inspired by the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death. A hidden manuscript found inside Saltwell Towers unleashes a strange kind of magic over the Park, as A Mid-Winter Night’s Tale slowly comes to life.

Gateshead Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport and Leisure, Councillor John McElroy said: "Enchanted Parks is hugely popular so the addition of an extra night this year is fantastic news.  This is such a special event which brings artistic ideas and installations together with our communities and the result is something that is quite unique to Gateshead.

“There is something magical about being in Saltwell Park after dark and it’s great that even more people can come along this year and enjoy such an amazing spectacle.”

Tickets are priced at £8 for adults and £2 for children under 16. Children aged three and under go free. Tickets go on sale at 9am on Tuesday 4 October and are available from www.enchantedparks.com.

Enchanted Parks is funded by Arts Council England and Gateshead Council. It is developed and commissioned by NewcastleGateshead Initiative in partnership with Gateshead Council as part of NewcastleGateshead Initiative’s festivals and events programme.

Enchanted Parks is part of Light Up The North; a consortium of seven light festivals taking place across the North of England www.lightupthenorth.com
