Tickets are now on-sale for what is set to be the region’s biggest firework display. The Gateshead Saltwell Park Firework Spectacular will take place on Saturday November 5 with intu Metrocentre’s Metrognomes making a special stage appearance as part of the centre’s 30th birthday celebrations.

As per 2015, when over 20,000 people attended, entry to the event is charged at £2,  wristbands are now available from intu Metrocentre and Eldon Square Customer Service Desks and Gateshead leisure centre or on-line at www.metroradio.co.uk/fireworks . Organiser’s Metro Radio are advising that no tickets sales will take place on the night at the event.

New to the event this year is a small fairground area for young children and a huge bonfire which will be lit just before the 30 minute firework display is set off at 7.30pm. The event opens at 5pm and Metro Radio will be entertaining the crowds with three hours of live bands and stage performances from the best North East emerging talent.

Event organiser, Dominic Munnelly, from Metro Radio said: “Last year’s event was a huge success. Having the continued support from Intu Metrocentre and Gateshead Council has allowed us to improve the attractions for people attending.  With the event taking place on a Saturday evening this year, we expect crowd numbers to be up significantly on last year so our advice is, don’t leave it until the day before to buy tickets as the event will probably sell out in advance.

“This promises to be a great, safe family night out but we are wishing to stress that to avoid congestion and delays those attending should not park in the immediate vicinity. If public transport isn’t an option, then we advise the public to park considerately well away from the park and walk in to the event. The Go North East park and ride service will operate from Gateshead Interchange, so this is the best way to travel to and from the event.”

A big attraction for families attending this year’s event are the ever popular Metrognomes as Gavin Prior, general manager at intu Metrocentre, commented:“30 years of being at the very heart of shopping in the North East, as well as holding the title of  the largest shopping and entertainment destination in Europe, is certainly something worth celebrating! The hugely popular Metrognomes have entertained and delighted thousands of families over the years, and they’re looking forward to taking centre stage and lighting up the Saltwell Park Fireworks. We’re thrilled to be part of this fantastic family event; it’s a great opportunity for us to have fun with our shoppers and a sparkling way to celebrate our 30th anniversary.”

Gateshead Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport and Leisure, Councillor John McElroy said: “We are delighted that Metro Radio are staging the fireworks display in Saltwell Park once again this year.  This is an extremely popular event and it ensures that people can come along and enjoy their evening in a safe and organised environment.  I’m sure it will be another fantastic night.”
