Why Gateshead?

Why Gateshead?

Gateshead has many of the features that define a city. It has iconic buildings and structures and world-class venues and events, attracting visitors from Europe and beyond. It is a distinctive place, combining dynamic urban areas, outstanding countryside and an exceptional riverscape. It has won national and international recognition in many fields, competing – and cooperating – on a global scale. It has friendly, community-minded people who have welcomed others in the past and welcome them today. And it has adaptable and creative people who make things happen and find their own solutions – the development of the Team Valley Trading Estate in the 1930s, the regeneration of the Quayside and the Town Centre, are examples of this confidence and forward thinking.

For all these reasons, we believe that Gateshead is worthy candidate to take its place among the cities of the United Kingdom and the world.
