Gateshead will today (11 March 2011) formally announce its intention to achieve a long-held ambition by bidding for city status.

Students at White Mere Community Primary School have backed Gateshead’s bid for city status after being inspired as the first group to experience a new technology course at Heworth Grange City Learning Centre.
