Pavements

The Council carries out repairs and annual programmes of inspection and maintenance of roads and pavements in the borough.

Pavements, particularly those constructed of paving slabs, can suffer very badly from a variety of reasons, particularly over-riding vehicles.

Please note: In the case of damage, it is important, if possible, to report the vehicle details/findings so that the Council can recover the full cost of repairs to the pavement.

When a problem is reported, we will inspect, assess and repair where necessary or forward details to the relevant party. Remember however, that only pavements considered dangerous can be repaired.

Cracked or unsightly pavements are not normally classed as dangerous. Pavements that are considered dangerous are those likely to cause a trip hazard or result in a fall.

When works are being undertaken on the highway (including the pavement/footway), the organisation, which may include utility companies, carrying out those works is responsible for ensuring there is a safe diversionary route for pedestrians and other traffic and a satisfactory reinstatement.

You can apply for a service using the contact details provided or by clicking on request this service| and selecting the service you require from the drop down list. Provide as much information as you can to ensure that we can deal with your request effectively.
