Pedestrian Crossings

Below is an excert from the Highway Code. This clearly states that anyone parking on a pedestrian crossing or the area covered by the zig-zag markings will receive a Penalty Charge Notice. This was previosly only enforced by the Police, but the Traffic Management Act 2004 has added this to the list of contraventions enforced under Civil Parking Enforcement. Civil Enforcement Officers will enforce this from 31st March 2008. The Police will also continue to enforce and in the event that the Police and Civil Enforcement Penalty Notices are issued, the Police notice will be the only one pursued as penalty points may be given.

191 You MUST NOT park on a crossing or in the area covered by the zig-zag lines. You MUST NOT overtake the moving vehicle nearest the crossing or the vehicle nearest the crossing which has stopped to give way to pedestrians.

[Laws ZPPPCRGD regs 18, 20 & 24, RTRA sect 25(5) & TSRGD regs 10, 27 & 28]

192 In queuing traffic, you should keep the crossing clear.
