This is a large car park within the Gateshead Quays area offering good access to The Sage Gateshead and the other various Cultural and Leisure Developments in this area.
This car park lies on an area of land that has been identified for redevelopment.
After considering formal proposals from four short-listed developers, Gateshead Council's Cabinet members finally chose Kier Property to develop the 5.5 acre Gateshead Quays Phase 2| site.
The proposed development will provide a tangible link between BALTIC, The Sage Gateshead and the Gateshead Millennium Bridge and will build on the emerging character of the area.
No firm date has yet been established as to when the car park will close to the public and development works commence, although a provisional date of October 2008 has been set.
Due to the uncertain future of the car park, permits will initially only be available up until the end of September 2008. The Parking Services team will however ensure that permit holders are kept updated on the current situation and notified formally before the end of August 2008, if a permit option can be re-offered from 1 October 2008 - 31 March 2009.

Disabled parking
There are 6 designated disabled parking bays in this car park, which are located along the western side. Vehicles displaying a valid disabled blue badge may park in the designated disabled bays free of charge, with no restriction on the length of stay. Please be aware that access to The Sage Gateshead and the Baltic Square area is via steps. As such these facilities are not appropriate for Blue Badge Holders that are mobility impaired.
It is recommended that Blue Badge Holders visiting The Sage Gateshead that may experience problems negotiating steps should utilise either the disabled parking bays off the road to the rear of The Sage Gateshead (21no.) or within St Mary’s Square, west of The Sage Gateshead (3no.) or within the Sage Gateshead car park itself (12no.).
It is recommended that Blue Badge Holders visiting the Baltic Quays area that may experience problems negotiating steps should utilise either the disabled bays within the South Shore Road car park (12no.) or the Baltic car park (7no.).
Alternatively a bus service is available from South Shore Road car park to the Sage Gateshead (Bus Service No.60). The buses operating on this service are all fully accessible. A full timetable is available at www.tyneandweartimetables.co.uk|
Permits
A permit scheme is available for this car park at a charge. Initially the permits can only be offered on a six month basis (1 April 2008 - 31 September 2008).
