The records of all births, deaths and marriages that occurred in Gateshead are held from 1837 onwards at Gateshead Register Office.

You can make an application for a birth, death or marriage certificate in person at the Register Office. The fees are:

• Copy Certificate £9
• Short Birth Certificate £9

You can also apply by post or telephone. The fees are:

• Copy Certificate £10 (includes £1 handling charge)
• Short Birth Certificate £10 (includes £1 handling charge)

Cheques should be made payable to the SUPERINTENDENT REGISTRAR. You can also pay by credit and debit card.

If the register is still in use the cost of the certificate is only £3.50 as no search is required.  This only applies to the day of registration.
