Index of Multiple Deprivation
Indices of Multiple Deprivation 2007
The Index of Multiple Deprivation 2007 ( IMD 2007) is a measure of multiple deprivation at the Lower Layer Super Output Area level|. The IMD 2007 is based on the idea of distinct dimensions of deprivation which can be recognised and measured separately. These are then combined into a single overall measure. The Index is made up of seven distinct dimensions of deprivation called Domain Indices| (15k PDF). Each Domain contains a number of indicators, totalling 38 overall. Further information on the Domains can be found in the IMD 2007 Summary| (295k PDF).
Two supplementary indexes have been created as a subset of the Income domain. These relate to income deprivation affecting children and income deprivation affecting older people.
In addition to Super Output Areas, Summary measures of the IMD 2007 are presented at District level, County level and Primary Care Trust ( PCT ) level. Collectively these measures are referred to as the Indices of Deprivation 2007.
