Sainsbury's UK School Games North East England 2010 - Now Recruiting Volunteers!
Thursday 2 - Sunday 5 September
Various locations across the North East
The UK School Games North East England 2010 is a multi sport domestic home nations event for elite 16 - 18 year old sports performers representing England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. The event will include 10 Olympic sports and will be contested by some 1600 athletes. Thousands of young people and their families will be welcomed to the North East for the event in September.
Launched in 2006, the UK School Games have been held every year up to 2012 and are designed to replicate the feel of events like the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, with Opening and Closing Ceremonies at Gateshead International Stadium together with Medal Presentation Ceremonies, an Athletes Village and a cultural programme for local residents and visitors.
Events to get involved in include:
Gateshead International Stadium - Athletics, Judo, Badminton
Gateshead Leisure Centre - Gymnastics
Sunderland Aquatics Centre - Swimming
Sunderland Tennis Centre - Fencing, Table Tennis
Northumbria University - Volleyball
Newcastle University - Hockey
Leazes Park - Cycling
Disability events in Athletics, Table Tennis and Swimming will also be included.
