Volunteering is one of Gateshead's greatest assets with 34 per cent (thats 55,000!) of Gateshead residents taking part regularly in a volunteering activity.

How to volunteer

The first step of the volunteer process is to complete the Volunteer Expression of Interest form regardless of the type of volunteering opportunity you are interested in.

Volunteer's Month

Gateshead’s third Volunteers’ Month took place throughout June 2015. Over 200 local people registered to be volunteers, over 56,000 hours of volunteering were logged, 62 events took place and over 16,400 people enjoyed the celebratory event held in Trinity Square. A big thank you to everyone who took part, ran events and of course to all the new volunteers who have joined the thousands of others who already volunteer in the borough.

Gateshead Volunteers’ Month may be over, but volunteers are needed all year round – check out the volunteering opportunities available and register your interest today.

Why volunteer

Volunteering is important and has the following benefits to individuals, organisations and communities:

    • Gaining new skills and experience
    • Enhancing CVs and improving employability
    • Increasing self esteem and confidence
    • ‘Giving something back’ to the community
