One of Gateshead Council's first steps in launching its year of the Volunteer in 2008 was to re-launch 'The Gateshead Award', which was introduced by Gateshead Council in 2007 to recognise the work of ordinary people who do extraordinary things to help people or improve their communities.
Anyone who carries out voluntary work in Gateshead can be nominated for 'The Gateshead Award'.
Recent winners have included Ron Bellinger for his work in arthritis care, Marie Wilson for her work around breastfeeding awareness and the entire Felling Band for bringing a brighter note to their community.
You can request a nomination form or to fill in an online nomination form on our Gateshead Award| pages.
