Preventative Services

The Youth Offending Team manages a number or preventative programmes in Gateshead. Youth inclusion programmes based in the south and east of the borough work with high risk young people aged 13-17. The Amber programme works across the whole of Gateshead and works with children aged 8 – 18.

The Amber Programme

The Amber Programme offers voluntary support to children aged 8yrs, up to their 18th birthday.

The aim for the programme is to help prevent children becoming involved in crime or anti-social behaviour by supporting both them and their families. The programme works with a wide range of partners to help identify children and young people who are at risk and attempt to link them to the appropriate services.

Although managed centrally the programme is delivered through local youth inclusion support panels based in each of the neighbourhood management areas.
