Who We Are and What We Do
Gateshead Council’s Neighbourhood Warden Service provides a semi-official presence in residential and public areas, of Gateshead. The service work closely with Northumbria Police to deliver a quality and professional service.
The service consists of 29 wardens, 3 supervisors, a dedicated first-line manager plus administrative support. The service is uniformed and carries out patrols, responding to minor incidents of youth disorder and anti social behaviour.
Our Service
The service is delivered through a number of patrol teams spread throughout the borough of Gateshead. Each team have a vehicle, which aids in the responsiveness and accessibility of the service.
The patrol pattern of each team is a mixture of planned and responsive activity. Patrols are primarily carried out on foot; with vehicles mainly used to allow the wardens to quickly respond to incidents.
Neighbourhood Wardens have the authority to serve £50 Fixed Penalty Notices on offenders caught in the act under legislation such as the Environmental Protection Act and the Anti Social Behaviour Act.
Facts and Figures

-
Spend over 60% of their time on patrol.
