Civil marriage and civil partnership ceremonies can take place at the Register Office, or at any approved venue between 9:30am and 3pm or until 4:30pm on Mondays. The times and days will need to be agreed with the person conducting the ceremony.
There will be two registrars at your ceremony; one to conduct the ceremony and the other to register your marriage. You must bring two witnesses with you to the ceremony.
If either partner is unable to speak or understand English, an interpreter must be present at the wedding. This must be discussed before the wedding with the registrar.
- A civil marriage ceremony cannot have any religious content, but you can add individual touches such as non-religious music and readings to be added to the legal wording, and video the ceremony.
- A civil partnership is legally formed by the signing of the civil partnership schedule. Like a civil marriage, this is also non-religious and you are not required to say any legal words; but we will be pleased to include a ceremony for couples who want this.
- You can also have your civil partnership converted to a marriage
