The chapel has seating for approximately 80 people with extra room for standing in the entrance. Particular attention has been paid to the needs of the disabled, with good wheelchair access and a hearing loop system.
The chapel is available for funeral services of all denominations and sects and although there is a cross on the wall, this can be covered if so desired.
Book of remembrance
The book of remembrance provides an everlasting record and memorial for the deceased. In addition a digital version of the book of remembrance is available enabling you to access the inscriptions at anytime. Visit our book of remembrance page for further information.
Garden of remembrance
Birtley crematorium has a garden of remembrance. This is a tranquil, landscaped garden where you will be able to reflect and remember your loved one in privacy. Many of the walks and borders in the formal part of the garden are edged with special kerbstones to which commemorative plaques can be attached.
Floral tributes will remain on display for three nights following the funeral. After the third night we will remove the flowers for recycling/disposal, unless otherwise instructed.
This is at the discretion of the Cremation Authority.
We do not accept any responsibility for tributes left at the crematorium after a funeral service or placed in the Garden of Remembrance.
There is a limited number of parking spaces available within the crematorium grounds. If this area is full, the crematorium staff will direct traffic to park on Windsor Road outside of the crematorium.
Windsor Road, Birtley, DH3 1PQ
Toilets at Birtley Crematorium are situated in the Book of Remembrance room, which is opposite the chapel.
