Memorial Wall
In November 2005, a new memorial wall was installed at both Saltwell and Birtley Crematorium. The wall will take over the role of the current system of plaques, which are to be discontinued.
The wall plaques are made from green slate and are inscribed in 22 carat gold. There are two sizes of wall plaque on offer and the application forms on the right of the page include examples of three sample tablets.
A ten-year lease is offered on the plaques with a possibility of extending for a further 10 years after this time.

Once you have completed the application form you can either;

Bring it into the Civic Centre where you can pay by cash, cheque or debit / credit card

Post the form along with a cheque

War Memorials and Cenotaphs
There are many war memorials and cenotaphs, commemorating our war dead, throughout the Gateshead Borough. These are listed in the document below.
Kerbside Plaques
In contrast to the Memorial Wall Plaques scheme, we also offer a Kerbside Style plaque at both Saltwell and Birtley Crematorium. The plaques are located within the Gardens of Remembrance and are made from black granite, inscribed with silver lettering.
Kerbside plaques are provided with an individual flower holder and are placed for a ten year period. After this period has expired the inscribed section of the memorial will be removed for the applicant to collect. The ten year period will not be extended.
