East Cemetery is our oldest cemetery and has been ‘closed ‘ for many years as  there are no new grave plots available. Many deed holders for this cemetery are returning to their family graves and having cremated remains interred, as this is the current trend.

Heworth Burn cemetery is our newest cemetery and opened in May 2002 as an extension to Heworth cemetery, which ‘closed’ for any new graves towards the end of that year.

Birtley Cemetery and Crematorium are in the same location, where as Saltwell Road South separates Saltwell Cemetery and Saltwell Crematorium

Saltwell Cemetery and Crematorium	1st April - 12th October Close: 6.30pm 13th - 27th October Close: 6.00pm 28th October - 31st March Close: 3.45pm
Others (April - September)	Mon - Sat: 8am - 7.30pm Sunday and Bank Holidays: 10am - 7.30pm
Others (October - March)	Mon - Sat: 8.30am - 3.45pm Sunday and Bank Holidays: 10am - 3.45pm
