Heworth Roundabout essential maintenance

Major roadworks are about to get underway at Heworth Roundabout. This is to repair the concrete bridges which the roundabout sits on. The work will involve removing the road surface and applying a new waterproof membrane. We expect the work to last six months, starting in late autumn. We will confirm a more precise date in due course.

Road closure at bottom of Blaydon Bamk

Northern Gas Networks have alerted Gateshead Council to major gas main works which are due to start on the roundabout at the bottom of Blaydon Bank on Shibdon Road in Blaydon (279Kb). The works, which begin on Saturday 21 October, will close the westbound exit of the roundabout towards the A695 roundabout past the entrance into Blaydon Bus Station for six days.

This will mean traffic heading down Blaydon Bank will only be able to turn right onto Shibdon Road, not left onto the A695. Traffic lights and a temporary pedestrian crossing will be in operation .

A sign-posted diversion via Shibdon Road and Chainbridge Road will be in operation.
