The GoSmarter project is split into two areas: GoSmarter to Work and Schools GoSmarter. The project is funded by the Department for Transport's Local Sustainable Transport Fund .
GoSmarter to Work focuses on key employment sites along the A1(m) corridor and encourages employees to travel more sustainably by public transport, walking, cycling and car sharing. Employers are encouraged to develop Travel Plans for their businesses which will provide staff with the information they need to GoSmarter.
GoSmarter to Work also offers the Green Light to Work programme. Green Light to Work helps people who have secured a job or training offer but cannot take it up because they do not have their own vehicle or public transport will not get them there. People are able to hire a scooter or electric bike for up to three months at a small cost.
Schools GoSmarter promotes active travel to school by walking, cycling and public transport with a focus on road safety. There are also some local improvements taking place to help make school journeys more sustainable.
