Flood Risk Management Strategy

In the Council’s role as the lead local flood authority (LLFA) it has a number of roles and responsibilities associated with flood risk which are outlined in the Flood and Water Management Act 2010.Gateshead Council's Flood Risk Management Strategy outlines the responsibilities of the Council as the LLFA and how we intend to deliver them. The strategy has been developed with other Council services to ensure it is achievable and that it considers the Council’s aspirations outlined in Vision 2030, the Core Strategy and local plan. In addition to the Council’s own responsibilities it identifies the roles and responsibilities of others responsible for managing flood risk including risk management authorities (RMA’s) including the Environment Agency and Northumbrian Water. The strategy has been approved by Council in January 2017 and a summary document has also been produced, both are available to download below.
