International Cross Country running returns to Gateshead International Stadium this winter as the first meeting of the UK Cross Challenge Series. McCain Gateshead International Cross Country Races brings together some of Europe’s and the UK’s leading cross country runners to Tyneside.

This televised event will include international races as well as junior, senior and veterans events. In addition, Gateshead primary schools will also be participating in and enjoying this major sporting event in the North East.

International races will comprise of overseas and domestic athletes including senior men and women and will include a one-lap open international event. Runners will be offered a challenging course alongside the Stadium on the banks of the River Tyne, with testing hills and fast sections. Spectators will also have the opportunity to watch, with plenty of viewing space available.

The races will provide a competitive warm up for the European Cross Country Trials two weeks later, in addition to providing runners with the opportunity to visit NewcastleGateshead, one of the UK’s leading tourist destinations.

Prize Money: Prize fund of over £15,000. Prizes to be awarded to 10th place in each race.
Club Prizes: £150 each awarded to a North East Counties affiliated club and a UK Athletics affiliated club with the highest number of participants on the day.
