Gateshead Leisure Centre

Gateshead Leisure Centre Exerior
Proposed Exterior of Gateshead Leisure Centre

The leisure centre will be closed for from January 11 2009, to enable a multi-million pound redevelopment.  It is expected to reopen in the spring of 2010.

The redevelopment work will cover every corner of the leisure centre – whose origins go back to 1941 with the opening of Shipley Pool. It will see a brand new gym, poolside sauna and steam rooms, new changing facilities, café and entrance plus upgrading of swimming pools and fitness studios and much more.

Users of the centre can continue keeping up with their favourite exercise routines and hobbies while work is going on. Most of the current scheduled coaching, classes and other activities are being fitted in at other leisure centres and pools right across the borough. Staff are on hand with extra help and advice on how to get to the new venues on offer too.
