Going for Gold is Gateshead Council's campaign to inspire, encourage and enthuse local people, whatever their age or activity level, to participate in sport and physical activity with the aim of leading a healthier lifestyle, as the borough builds up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. 

From archery| to rowing|, synchronised swimming| to judo| and more, there’s lots of Olympic and Paralympic activities you can take part in right here in Gateshead! Plus if you find one you really like there’s support networks in place to help you develop your talents further.

Track of Inspiration

We are looking for two thousand and twelve people to come forward with their own personal inspirations as we head towards the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Visit our Track of Inspiration| and tell us how the games will inspire you and you’ll receive discounts on activities across the borough each month.

London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay comes to Gateshead

Areas of Gateshead including Blaydon, Low Fell, Chowdene and the iconic Angel of the North are some of the 1,000 plus villages, towns and cities announced by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) through which the Olympic Flame will be carried by Torchbearers during the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay, presented by Coca-Cola, Lloyds TSB and Samsung.
