How to find us

Situated on the A184 (Felling by pass), it has excellent travel links via rail, air and road and is easily accessed by a variety of methods.

By Foot

A footpath/cycle path runs directly from the Gateshead Stadium Metro Station, through St. James housing estate to the Stadium (approx 5 min walk).

A traffic-free path runs along the length of the A184 (Felling bypass) on the adjacent side to the Stadium from Heworth (approx 15 min walk).

A dedicated crossing at the front of the stadium and a pedestrian bridge over the A184 (Felling Bypass) gives safe and easy access.

By Bicycle

Hadrians Way (National Cycle route 72) runs along the north bank of the River Tyne (the opposite side to the Stadium) from Wylam, to Tynemouth. For access from the Hadrians Way to the Stadium, use either the dedicated cycle route over Gateshead Millennium Bridge or the Tyne Tunnel Cycle Path.

Keelmans Way (National Cycle route 14) links to the Derwent Walk and runs along the South bank of the River Tyne, directly behind Gateshead International Stadium.

There are 32 covered cycle parking spaces in a shelter to the east of the courtyard between the buildings. There are 8 uncovered spaces next to the main entrance. 

By Bus

The following buses operate to and from Neilson Road/Old Fold Road bus stop. For further information telephone Traveline 0871 200 22 33.

  • From Gateshead Interchange: Service 93 (every 15 mins)
  • Heworth Interchange: Service 94 (every 15 mins)
  • From the stadium to Gateshead Interchange: Service 94 (every 15 mins)
  • From stadium to Heworth Interchange – Service 93 (every 15 mins)

By Metro

Gateshead Stadium Metro Station is 5 minutes walk from Gateshead International Stadium. A footpath leads from the Metro Station, through St. James housing estate to the stadium.

The Tyne and Wear Metro system has 57 stations throughout Newcastle, Gateshead, South Shields and Sunderland including Newcastle Airport, Newcastle Central Station and Sunderland Train Station. Metro trains to and from Gateshead Stadium Station run throughout this network on a daily basis at regular intervals. For further information telephone Traveline 0871 200 22 33.

By Rail

The nearest train station is Newcastle Central Station (East Coast Line)
Travel from Newcastle Central Station to Gateshead International Stadium and vice versa via the Tyne and Wear Metro System.
Alternatively, buses operate to Gateshead Interchange - see “By Bus”

By Air

The nearest airport is Newcastle Airport.
Travel from Newcastle Airport to Gateshead International Stadium and vice versa via the Tyne and Wear Metro System.

By Car

Gateshead International Stadium is signposted from major roads in the area.

From the North - follow the A1 until the turn off for the A184 (Gateshead Town Centre). Keep following the A184 until you come to Gateshead International Stadium on the left hand side.

From the South - follow the A1 until the turn off for the A167 (Gateshead South). You will pass the Angel of the North on your left hand side. Keep going until you come to a large roundabout with a right turn for the A184. Turn right and keep following the A184 until you come to Gateshead International Stadium on the left hand side.

From the West – follow the A69 until you meet the A1. From there follow the directions as from the north.

From the East – follow the A19 until you reach Whitemare Pool roundabout and then turn on to the A184 (Gateshead). Continue on the A184 over Heworth roundabout and Gateshead International Stadium in on the right hand side.
 
From Newcastle Aiport  & Newcastle Central Station – follow the A167 North (over the Tyne Bridge) until you reach a roundabout with a left turn onto the A184. Follow the A184 until you come to Gateshead International Stadium on the left hand side.

Parking

There are 258 free spaces in 3 car park areas with 25 designated for disabled  parking. Car parking is FREE.

Motorbikes, Mopeds and Scooters

There are 3 ground anchors providing storage for 6 powered 2 wheeled vehicles (P2WV).
