The stadium is home to the English Institute of Sport in the North East, supporting and developing the work of high performance athletes on World Class Programmes in the region.
Their facilities include:

Their association at Gateshead International Stadium, now means that the facility is included in a network of nine national multi-sport elite facilities in the country and their work will help to support and retain the region's best performers.
The English Institute of Sport enhances the development of talented sports people and will help to retain the region's best performers. They provide services to approximately 90 World Class funded and development athletes, plus medical support to a further 60 talented athlete scholarship students from 20 sports. Current supported sports include athletics, rowing, swimming, boxing, golf and gymnastics.
