Costing nearly £15million, the 2006 development of Gateshead International Stadium launched a new era in the Stadium's history by bringing exciting new facilities which are unique to the region.
The new state of the art development hosts integrated top quality sports facilities and support system for high performance athletes, a community based sports centre and a broad range of sport related education and training programmes in partnership with Gateshead College.

As well as being the site for the English Institute of Sport |in the North East and for Gateshead College's Academy of Sport|, the stadium offers:

State of the art indoor athletics training hall incorporating a 82m x 6 lane straight, throwing cage and vertical and horizontal jumping facilities;

Two floodlit full size 3rd generation artificial turf pitches, offering the best artificial surface for football and rugby;

Floodlit grass pitches providing an excellent coaching, training and competitive playing surface;

Floodlit outdoor athletics throw area providing an excellent training facility for all throws events;

Air-conditioned fitness room with ardiovascular and resistance equipment, including specialist equipment for disabled users and an extensive free weights area.
