Friends of Saltwell Park

ParkAutumn

Saltwell Park, based in the heart of Gateshead, is one of Britain’s finest examples of a Victorian Park. Opened in 1876 it is steeped in history and Victorian splendour. A stunning £10M makeover, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, has brought the Park back to life, marking it as one of the most important and historic parks in the country.

Known as the ‘People’s Park’, Saltwell park is at the centre of Gateshead’s community, encompassing 55 acres of landscape with ornamental and woodland gardens, boating lake, sports facilities, bowling greens, play areas, animal house, maze, education centre and the beautiful Victorian Saltwell Towers and café.

The Friends of Saltwell Park are a group of local people who have an interest in maintaining and improving the park and its facilities. The Friends look to promote and protect the well-being and enjoyment of the Park for the benefit of the local community.

Benefits:

  • Opportunity to put forward views and aspirations about the park
  • Involvement in a variety of talks, meetings and events
  • Regular newsletters to keep you informed
  • To have your say in what is going on now, and what is planned for the future
  • If you want to become a Friend, please fill out and return the application form below.
