The Council encourages the use of allotments through:

Supporting allotment associations;

Letting out Council-owned allotment gardens around the borough;

Preventing the loss of allotments, regardless of ownership, by refusing planning permission for any change of use, unless there is clearly no demand for the allotments in question in the long term.
Any requests to create new allotment space are managed through the standard planning application process.

Only residents of the Gateshead Borough will be considered for an allotment.
