Allotments

The Council encourages the use of allotments through:

  • Supporting allotment associations;
  • Letting out Council-owned allotment gardens around the borough;
  • Preventing the loss of allotments, regardless of ownership, by refusing planning permission for any change of use, unless there is clearly no demand for the allotments in question in the long term.

Any requests to create new allotment space are managed through the standard planning application process.

For further information about the management and development of land for community facilities and recreational purposes please see section 12 of the latest Unitary Development Plan (UDP ).
